How to Customize YouTube Embed Code Options – Top 10 Tips

I love using YouTube (YT) for my lead generation, and I also embed my YouTube videos in my blog posts quite a bit.

However, I don’t always like the embed code that YT forces us to use; so I did some research to find out if there are any tricks that can be used to customize the code options for my blog videos.

And, voila – the list of top 10 ways to customize your YT embed code options.

1. Customize Basic Features:

You can customize certain features in the YouTube embed player itself, like turn on/off related videos, choose the size, add a frame, choose privacy settings.

2. Turn off title and ratings

&showinfo=0

As in:

<object width=”445″ height=”364″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/PvPaTW5lI6E&hl=en_US&fs=1&showinfo=0&rel=0&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0×999999&border=1″></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/PvPaTW5lI6E&hl=en_US&fs=1&showinfo=0&rel=0&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0×999999&border=1″ type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true” width=”445″ height=”364″></embed></object>

3. Turn off search

&showsearch=0

As in:

<object width=”445″ height=”364″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/PvPaTW5lI6E&hl=en_US&fs=1&showsearch=0&rel=0&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0×999999&border=1″></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/PvPaTW5lI6E&hl=en_US&fs=1&showsearch=0&rel=0&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0×999999&border=1″ type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true” width=”445″ height=”364″></embed></object>

4.  Turn off annotations

&iv_load_policy=3

As in: (I hope you got the point by now – just replace the previous code with this code or add this one after the previous one, if you want both of them – the more, the merrier.)

5. Force closed captions

&cc_load_policy=1

6.  Turn on autoplay

&autoplay=1

7. Loop your video back

&loop=1

8. Embed Higher Quality Videos

&ap=%2526fmt%3D18

Also, high-definition 720p code:

&hd=1

9. Embed only a part of Video

&start=3&end=60

If you want to embed only a part of the video, use this code. The values “3” and “60” are the seconds you would like the video to start/end at. You can skip “&end=60” if you just want to play it to the end.
You can also use the following website to do the same thing:

10. Bypass Youtube Regional Filtering

Not all videos can be watched in all parts of the world. Your IP address is used to determine your location and then allow/deny access to the video.
Here’s how you change that:
Change the url from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=<somecode> to

http://www.youtube.com/v/<somecode>

Great tips?

I thought so!

Acknowledgments: if you thought I came up with this stuff all by myself, you thought wrong. Here are my sources: ReelSEO and MakeUseOf.

By the way, here is my favorite way to make sure my videos have the best chance to get on the first page of Google:

You are right: you don’t have to comment or retweet, but would it help if I told you it would be much appreciated? :)

Wow excellent find on your site. I was just about to put together a few landing pages using YouTube video. Only hours ago I had been taking notes on what I didn’t like from the default embed code.

I especially find #9 important. That feature will allow me to make only a few videos and use the important parts for my sales pages!

Thx Ana
