Tricky? Not so much...
Last Friday we talked about how to do better link building on CommentLuv blogs.
This Friday, I decided to spill the beans on yet another little trick I use CommentLuv plugin for – this time on my own blog.
It might seem obvious once you read it, but I don’t see too many of you doing it on your own blogs, plus I had a couple of questions on how I do what I do.
Of course, this post is only for those bloggers who are currently using (or will start using right after reading this post – great for user-engagement) CommentLuv plugin on their blogs.
We all know how important it is to link our posts and pages to each other within our blog. In SEO it’s called deep linking or internal linking.
If you need a refresher on the topic, refer to this post:
As of right now, I use four different ways to interlink my posts:
- Simply by placing links to other relevant posts from the post I am writing (like I just did above).
- By using Yet Another Related Posts Plugin – it shows relevant posts at the end of any post automatically.
- By displaying Popular Posts and Recommended Posts in my sidebar.
- By using CommentLuv plugin in my comment section.
Of course, I use CommentLuv on my blog (as you can very well see) and my readers are more than happy to provide me with a link to one of their latest posts.
But have you noticed that almost all my responses to your comments contain my CommentLuv links as well?
And it’s so easy to do!
Of course, you need to be logged in to your dashboard first.
But who said you need to respond to your comments from your dashboard?
You can certainly do it straight from the post itself and THAT’S when you can use CommentLuv links, giving your readers yet another way to find your older posts and an inner link for your own SEO purposes.
Marketing Takeaway
Simple enough.
Now I wonder how many of you have been using this simple tip on your own blog.
Love it or hate it? Comment to show me that you’re alive!

Let’s see: I link within my articles. I have YARPP installed. I have recent posts (but not popular posts) in my sidebar, – so I am doing well.
But I never thought of commenting from the front end. And with CommentLuv Premium that I just got, I am hoping that I can choose the post that I want to show rather than the latest post.
By the way, I came to your blog from http://www.craigsowerby.com – whose site I came to after looking at Andy Bailey’s video. I asked Craig if there was a central place that listed those who have CommentLuv installed and he said you have a list of PR2 and above blogs and I am just wondering where that is, if you have it.
And then I see that you have huge traffic, so I have to keep reading here. I genuinely feel I have found something at last that I can read and benefit from.

I am just starting out on my website marketing journey and welcome your tips; the comment luv plugin ceertainly seems to help generate lots of good comments and interaction. I also like the popular post idea.

That’s a great idea. I haven’t installed Comment Luv because I always worried that Google would penalize me from giving out so much link juice. Is there any truth to that? I like the idea of being able to link my pages together better….

That’s great Rob. That means you’re now out of the duh category into the aha! category. LOL!

I was actually Google searching if it helps with SEO to reply to comments using commentluv. I found the exact answer that I was looking for and therefore I think you’re awesome! =) Nice blog too.

That’s sweet, Kyle. Glad you got your answer on my site.
This is something I’ve been doing for a while, but never really thought about as a ‘trick’. Nice to know I’ve been doing the right thing despite doing it for all the wrong reasons!
Excellent post.

Nice little tip which I didn’t implement before as I’m so used to replying from the dashboard. Wish Andy can make it possible to do it from the dashboard
Thanks, Ana.

Hi Ana,
thank you so much for your gesture to help!
May I ask a silly question?
How do I removed those comments notification that comes to my email? Your fan base is huge! lol
Thanks in advance,

I used to do this when I first started blogging, Ana. I still do it on one of my blogs occasionally, but it links back to posts on another one on my blogs. Sometimes, I sacrifice SEO for aesthetics. You have quite a few comments on your posts so sprinkling the links in is less obtrusive, but I find it too distracting doing it on sites with few comments. Great SEO/traffic tip though.
I guess you are right, it is less obtrusive on a blog with many comments.
Ana, I have been using that technique every time someone leaves a comment at my place, thanks to the post you wrote on it and how super simple it is.
The new version that Andy has now is really great, but more importantly, I owe it all to you that I even use it…:)
Thanks!

Ana, thanks to you I have now installed CommentLuv and I have registered it at ComLuv.com.

To be honest, I am making this comment now to try it out!
I hope this isn’t bad form…
Thank you again! I think I have become a Traffic Generation Cafe Groupie!
Not at all! All groupies welcome!
I was kind of bummed because I noticed the CommentLuv goodies didn’t work on that comment

I think I posted too quickly. Seems to be working now.
Thank you again, Ana!

Hi Ana…
I discovered your blog about an hour ago! Wow! I haven’t been able to stop reading. Thank you so much.
I intend to check out the Commentluv plugin this morning for my 30 day old infant blog.
I am a little confused about this last comment and your reply about *dofollow/no follow*.
Would you expand on this a bit? Or perhaps point me in the right direction to learn more about it?
Thank you again! So excited to learn more more more…
Karen
Once again, welcome to TGC, Karen – the biggest compliment any blogger can get is being read, so thank you!
To answer your question on Do/NoFollow, here are a couple of posts for you to take a look at:

CommentLuv is really a great tool. Unfortunately, I am using Disqus on my blog since a very long time which doesnt provide the CommentLuv in it like IntenseDebate….Hope that Disqus will work on its script soon and will add this great tool in its commenting system
Are you not able to switch to ComLuv if you like it so much?
In fact, I dont want to switch from Disqus as its really a nice commenting system and helps me so much in comment management. ..Another thing is that I am using it so long that I am afraid of any error while switching as Disqus hosts all comments on its own server….So, hope for the best

Hi Ana,
I noticed this a while back that when I replied from comments from within the post itself, I got to use commentluv. But I have been using my dashboard to comment when I’ve been short on time. It would be an awesome timesaver if it could be done within the admin panel.

Richard, that functionality may be developed in a future release. I also look forward to it!
Ana,
Great tool to use with CommentLuv. I began doing this a while back after copying it from you. I still can’t understand why some blogs, especially new ones are not using CommentLuv.
I actually recommended it to a new blog that I was commenting on but they were not interested in using it. Oh well.

Hi Ana,
That is a great tip that I will be using more, well even start to use. I have always added comments through my dashboard but it makes so much more sense to add in the comments section and use the Comluv pluging to its full affect.
Thanks

It sure makes great sense. Start using ComLuv and tell me what you think.
I never thought that CommentLuv has that much has that much impact on my blog, you have enlightened me on this matter. Thank you so much for sharing and this has been my food for thought for today! Hoping to hear more of these from you again
It’s my pleasure, Lawrence. ComLuv must be one of the best tools I have ever found and I gladly share!
Ana, Thanks a lot for such nice post. I am not using the commentluv plugin.. But after reading this, i will surely be using this. Lets see how it works… Thanks again.
You’re welcome, Maria. Let me know what you think.
Hi Ana
I do that a lot. Think it is a great way to bind my posts together for both my visitors and for Search Engines. I think that is one of the reasons that Google have indexed almost all my posts.

Have a great weekend Ana

I have had so much trouble with comment luv plugin that I disabled it. As you can see, it’s still screwy. The post it wants to share is a comment on one of my posts, not the last post that I wrote. Tried to fix with no avail.
Is your recommended posts a plugin? I couldn’t find one called that exactly but a few similar ones.
Cathy invites you to read: Comment on I Guess I am a Misfit by mommacat
Cathy, when you type in the details for your comment, add your http://www.domain.com/ in the website field, then type up the comment, select the post from the drop down and submit. I see that yours is posting a comment – not sure why that is. Did you contact tech support?
Yep contacted them but never got a reply.
The problem is when I hit that drop down, it says I need to sign up to be able to make a choice on posts. I already signed up but with a different site. When I log into my account, there’s no option to add a site. So I tried to register another account but it never sent me the email to confirm the account. So I give up. For some reason Comment Luv doesn’t like me
It Luvs you so much that you’re messing with it’s mind!
Try log in using the details you used to sign up for the second account and then do a password request. It should then let you log in and if it does, it will say that you have not confirmed the account and give the option to resend the confirmation email.
Unfortunately that won’t work since they don’t give you a password until you confirm it so there’s no way to log in.
But in my continuing saga of my problems with CommentLuv, I did find where you can add an additional URL. It wasn’t in the obvious place where it actually says “Add your website.” It was under the “members” button. It had a drop down that said “Add an additional URL”. I had to pay $10 to buy credits to add it but I did.
Unfortunately now it gives me a choice of 5 comments to chose from on my blog instead of my posts. LOL.
I’m wondering if it’s a feedburner issue.
Anyway, I left another message asking what I should do but it doesn’t look like they handle those too often. There were tickets in there that people had left in early April that no one had taken care of.

Ana,
I must be a good “listener” because I’ve been following you for a long time now and the only one of these that I’ve missed is displaying Popular Posts and Recommended Posts in my sidebar. I’ll be adding that soon.
As always, thanks for all the valuable posts. I’m always learning from you.

Thanks for stopping by, Fiona and for your kind words.
Ana,
I thought about using Comment Luv on my own blog when I reply to readers. I never do because I always thought, “well, this IS my last post.” DUH! It won’t be next time I post!! And I did find it a little excessive.
But since I actually contemplated it and now you have verified that it can be perfectly normal to do it. I will.
Thanks Ana and have a great weekend.

Allie, remember that you can also link to older posts that are relevant, as your readers may have missed out on those posts. Let me know how it works for you.
Nifty little trick and for some reason, I have been using all four methods with the exception of precisely the last one. Problem (which really should not be) is that most of the time I reply to comments via my dashboard and not directly from the post. Should start doing that to see what kind of effect it will bring

I used to do it that way as well, Francisco, but once I switched to doing it from the post, I loved it.
Great tip, as always. I installed commentluv after hesitating for a bit, because I was worried about link leaks. Then when I became a loyal reader of TGC and noticed that you didn’t bother about PR but were giving away so much link love, I installed it rightaway. I am doing all the 4 points as mentioned by you. Especially the deeplinking thing when replying to comments on my blog – I learned that from one of your posts.
Cheers,
Jane.
So blessed to have you as my loyal reader, Jane – the fact that you actually act upon my advice is the icing on the cake!
Its just great because your able to build that back on another site that uses commentluv and plus you have people who are encourage to comment because they know their getting a backlink.

That’s true – of course we are talking about how to use CommentLuv on YOUR OWN site.
Ana, great tip! One day I woke up and realized that I should be doing the exact same thing! I’m not sure why I wasn’t doing it when I first installed CommentLuv. I guess I was thinking that people are already on my blog and they don’t need any more reminders to link to my posts. Then it dawned on me that by using my own CommentLuv, I would be building more backlinks – especially when I’m responding to new comments that were left on older posts. Most likely these comments are left by people coming from search engines and they might not think to visit other relevant pages on my blog.
Using the ReplyMe plugin helps with this too, because this way it increases my chances of converting search engine traffic into regular readers.
