Sunday Coffee with Ana: Family vs Business

54 Flares 54 Flares ×

list building week with coffee imageGotta tell you – this was a tough one, although should’t have been.

Of course, family should come first. For all of us.

That’s why, plus the fact that the numbers of my poll show that most of my readers neither attend nor listen to my Sunday broadcasts, I decided to put my energy where it’s most needed.

Saturdays and Sundays should be family days.

Of course, I can’t sit still and will still be working on writing more great content to teach you everything I know and learn about traffic generation – here and there.

Here’s a little something for you though – my daughter’s first ballet lesson. Most of you know how excited we both were about it. :)

A word about this week: LIST BUILDING and EMAIL MARKETING week is finally here.

I’ll have lots of great content coming for both beginners in list building (even those who haven’t started it, but should) to those who are doing it, but not having great results.

So see you during the week!

Ana, the content of most pro bloggers is business, business, business. Injecting family into the picture is a great way of keeping things real and grounded. And it gives a glimpse of the real person behind the blog. I see nothing wrong with it. Your daughter is a cutie pie.

Awww, sooooo cute!

Glad to see that you’ll be taking some well-deserved time off on weekends to spend it with your family. Good decision :)

Thanks for sharing Emma’s video clip with us.

All the best,
Mavis

P.S. Love the new changes here. Well done! :)

Ana March 12, 2011 at 8:24 am

Thank you so much, Mavis!

My family is my top priority that’s why I always make sure that every weekend is to spend my time with them.

Sooooo cute Ana. I have two little boys and until someone comes up with Star Wars Ballet I think we’re going to miss out on the whole ballet thing. Hey ho. I’m getting to know my Star Wars back to front….. today I’m Han Solo (though I had to google to find that it wasn’t Hans Solo lol). I don’t know a single mom who does’t struggle with the work/family/self balance thing. I thought working from home would be the answer – how wrong could I be – I’m up ’til 2am and haven’t yet worked out how I’m going to bring in an income ;-)

Ana April 25, 2011 at 6:47 am

Thanks, Fiona. Yes, sometimes working from home also requires long hours, but being able to spend time with your children makes it all worth-while.

Hi Ana I can totally understand taking a family day. It’s great to get out from behind the computer (every once in a while) and spending time with the fam. I missed your Sunday broadcasts as that’s Sunday night for me and I was typically hanging out with my family.

Ana March 8, 2011 at 8:15 am

I have to tear myself away from my computer, but needs to be done; otherwise, it’s just an addiction. :)

Katie Goode March 7, 2011 at 8:31 am

Ana,

The video is so cute! I used to be better about taking weekends off from work, but I’ve gotten back in to some bad habits over the past few months. It really is important to take family time! I’ll miss your videos, but I’m glad you’re able to spend more time with your family.

Ana March 7, 2011 at 5:08 pm

My husband and daughter were getting unhappy with me, and I questioned my priorities. Weekends are to be spent with family; hope you get there as well, Katie!

Jane March 6, 2011 at 9:34 pm

Yup Ana that’s very true. It’s just Saturday and Sunday I am with my 9 months old. He misses me a lot already. Still sitting a lot in front of my laptop on weekends too. Can’t help it, being a part time blogger :(

Jane.

We’ve got to do what we’ve got to do, Jane.

My daughter is used to seeing me in front of the computer, but I know she really doesn’t like it.

Ana

Couldn’t agree more. Sometimes you have to pull the plug on things and redirect your focus to feel good about what your doing.

Your video brought a smile to my face, I remember when mine were little and soooo cute. Enjoy the moments, they soon grow up.

Enjoy your weekends

Ana March 6, 2011 at 9:49 pm

Thanks, Jackie – you do the same!

Hi Ana, I don’t blame you one bit.

I have to admit though, although I really wanted to attend all the calls… I haven’t done a good job. If my reasons haven’t been about feeling under the weather, they’ve been about exhaustion.

We all rise pretty early in the week with the birds. At my end of the country being on Pacific time (not that many others aren’t) I find myself missing the calls even if I sleep till 8.

Spending time with family is SO important. I have been thinking about it a lot lately, in fact I just wrote a post about enjoying the moment and smelling the roses.

You also deserve this time, and although I am sure that many of us (and of course I can speak for myself) really appreciate your willingness to take the time to spend a little time with us on Sundays, weighing the importance of family time against working time is essential particularly if we’re not taking you up on it.

Time is precious and goes pretty fast and there is more to life than being a workaholic even if we enjoy it.

I feel badly for not being there will bells on, but then again I can always find a way to beat myself up or convince myself I am not working as hard as I should.

Its just the way I’m programmed.. and sense you might be similar.

With that said, I applaud you for making the decision you have and hope you are enjoying your Sunday with your little darling!

See you this week and look forward to your posts!

Jayne

Ana March 6, 2011 at 9:48 pm

Jayne – you were, just like I would like to, putting your family first.

I don’t think we’ll every find the right balance, but we can at least try.

Randy@InternetMarketingRemarks March 6, 2011 at 2:30 pm

Ana- Getting work and family life balanced is such a challenge when you have young children. Unfortunately, I think the concept of spending “quality” time with young children is not very realistic. Devoting your weekends to your family is unlikely to lead to regrets. Have fun!

Ana March 6, 2011 at 9:45 pm

Thanks, Randy!

I’ve got to tell you though: you need to lighten up in your writing. :)

Sheila Atwood@landing pages best practices March 6, 2011 at 11:59 am

Ana,

How fun! I just spent the week end with my grandkids. My grand daughter turned 10 and we had so much fun giving her my mothers antique bedroom set. She was thrilled. Then we went to a wrestling tournament with my grandson. It was a great week end.

Family is the “Spoonful of Sugar.”

Enjoy yours. I am looking forward to this weeks posts.

Ana March 6, 2011 at 9:13 pm

Family is the spoonful of sugar that makes the medicine do down!

Love the thought…

Time is precious; we’d better use it wisely.

Kiesha @ We Blog Better March 6, 2011 at 9:27 am

Hi Ana!
This is so intuitive of you – yes, at some point even bloggers should spend time with their families. Finding that right balance between work and family time is so hard isn’t it? I’m so glad you shared that video with us – so adorable! My family and I were just talking about this fun Mary Poppins song!
Anyway, I’m about like you… can’t sit still (but my five year old is waiting to play a game, so gotta go!) :)

Ana March 6, 2011 at 9:10 pm

Thanks for coming by, Kiesha – I so agree how hard it is to hold ourselves back and still have our priorities straight!
